This dial is hand made and hand painted.
It has not exactly been established when a magnetic compass was first added to a sundial.
The first portable compass-sundial was already known in 1480 in Nuremberg, which was the first city in Europe to have an organized trade of compass makers. According to the craft rules, compass dials were to be made in ivory or good quality boxwood.
The sundial you have acquired is a perfect replica of the one signed by Hans Troschel dated in 1626 and it is totally handmade in ivory resin.

Silver Saxon sundial
Faithfully produced copy of the original unique Saxon Pocket Sundial, dated 900 A.D., which was unearthed during alterations to Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, England. It has been hand-cast and hand-finished by expert craftsmen in Great Britain from over 2 1/4 oz. of solid Sterling Silver hallmarked in 1979 in London, England.

Augsburg Equinoctial Sundial
Augsburg-made sundials enjoyed great popularity during the 18th century.
The lower part of the original instrument contained the compass and is beautifully decorated with floral fretwork.
The casing was inscribed with the latitudes of several important cities between 32º and 60º north.
The octagonal-shaped hour scale, with alternating convex and concave sides,
has the hours in Roman numerals engraved on the upper side from III in the morning to IX at night,
and in Arab numerals on the interior border from 3 in the morning to 9 at night.
The gnomon rests on the axis of the diametric turntable at the six-hour line.
The latitude limb is the circular sector where the scale is engraved.
The hour scale lies over it, using a special recess for this function.

David Beringer Quadrant
This model is a reproduction of a mobile cubic quadrant that dates back to 1736, and is thought to be the invention of David Beringer of Hapsburg (Germany).
It is made up of an articulated arm, which allows us to incline the cube in a North-South direction, and a plumb line on the eastern side that moves along a graduated scale and can be used to adapt the instrument to the latitude of the measurer.
